Utah’s Focus On The Common Core Seems Reasonable

Despite Utah being a solidly conservative state – most conservatives seem to be against the Common Core – the state’s governor, Gary Herbert, is taking a deliberate and fair look at the Common Core standards for statewide adoption. Obviously the main concerns are Federal involvement and the level of quality of the content standards.

Morgan Jacobsen writes an excellent article (A verdict on Common Core? Utah gets a little closer) in the current edition of Deseret News showing the apparent level-headed care in which the state is considering the Common Core. Unlike Bobby Jindal who appears to be pandering to the right wing, Governor of Louisiana, Herbert’s approach seems to be rational and not politically based.

That’s encouraging. The Utah students will benefit no matter what the outcome might be.

Check out the article.  It’s informative and worth reading.
